The highs for me were the excited comments from staff about how much fun they were having and how they were working together as a team to complete the 'THINGS'. It was also great to have the comments :
1) I now know more than my kids and can show them something! and 2) What's that? - from one of the IT support staff on campus
This type of comment really gives us the feeling that we are early adopters of this technology. It's at this time that you realise that you know so much more than before!!
Where to next?
I want to use some of the technology to make our info lit in libraries so much better.
How about using Camtasia to design some vidcasts with voice overs and either upload them to Youtube or Teachertube and then embed them into web pages or WebCT courses?
How about designing some signs using image generators or even the magazine covers and after laminating them - using them as invitations for courses?
How about having a Wiki for staff and students that would encourage our students to actively be involved in helping their fellow students successfully complete their studies?
For me personally - I'm going to continue with Learning 2.1 and complete some of the activities there. I might even add some of the Things to Peel's Blog for lecturers and teachers ie Peel Inlet (Peel Investigating New Learning Emerging Technologies)
I'm actually going to have a go at lots of the exercises. When I told the others that number 23 of 23 things really led us onto another 30 odd things to do, they almost fell over. I didn't let on that they only had to do one exercise.....
My first one is a magazine cover - always wanted to be one of the 'in-crowd' when I was a teenager - thank goodness I got over that early on....
Looking at the picture taken of me on the cruise boat travelling along the Gordon-Franklin River in Tasmania - I wonder if people would think that this could really be someone whose picture would get on the front page of Rolling Stone?
Uses in a library - could be good to advertise an event or similar - especially if you could print this out on A1 or A2 size paper!!
Tried and failed miserably about twittering for a week (last week) - kept on forgetting to put things in each day. Will now have to start again.
Could see this being used :
1) In lectures to gain feedback and possible questions about a lecture. The lecturer could then adjust what he is saying or could go into more depth if necessary.
2) by phone or similar at a conference or show or ??? with participants letting friends know what bits could be missed or what NOT to miss. Foodies could let others know what places to go
I wouldn't use this tool after this week - have to login - different perhaps if it was like a rss and popped up on your computer like sharpreader!
So hot today, we decided to stay home in the cool. Lunch was delightful - satay sticks cooked by Bruce with a fresh salad ... and now with the movie 'Sabrina' showing in the lounge, I'm catching up on 23 things.
I joined Facebook over 2 weeks ago, so had to hurriedly complete the items required and invite libkat etc. Then went and completed the registration for Twitter, completed profile and wrote up on my own wall. I started the Twitter for a week, but haven't got any friends as yet.
I probably wouldn't use these in everyday work or social situations - but you never know!
Have been exploring these and making up some for fun dog-tags for one of the staff with their name and '21 again' written on them. Motivationally they could be very useful for grabbing attention instead of lots of borrowing words....so have been advertising some staff PD down here at Peel.
The following is the next 2 weeks worth - I had such fun!!
Have been feeling a little sorry for myself over the past few days - either I keep having recurring flu OR I am suffering from Hayfever! Cos everybody keeps on telling me that I don't look my best, or ask me to look away as my eyes look as red as...., or even ask why I'm at work? Why am I? Cos half the staff are home sick in bed - that's why! One power ball is all I need and I would be away overseas in a little house on wheels. I dream of travelling in something like these...................
on the left ... only $1.5 million US, while the one on the right is older so only $600,000
Our budget would be more likely to be what I can afford right now ie $11,000 US and get something like the little Winnebago we owned and travelled in in 1998 ... As long as what we get is better than the following model
